Original Wyoming court security funding bill dead, heavily modified $3-$6 million version integrated into budget instead

I mentioned previously the Wyoming bill (SB 14) to create a special $10 million fund for court security programs throughout the state. That particular bill all but flew through the Senate and the House appropriations committee but failed to be voted on by the full House before a March 3 deadline.

A heavily modified version has now been enacted as part of the state’s overall budget. The appropriation signed into law yesterday (Section 328 of HB 1) allocates funding specifically to two counties (Fremont and Sweetwater) for construction of more secure courthouses. The appropriation is $3 million, but is contingent on the localities or other “nonstate sources” providing the other $3 million.
